Public Speaking is an inescapable part of being a computational scientist. We spend so much time coming up with novel and phenomenal research, but at some point we must be able to communicate what we do in interesting and understandable ways. This talk will consist of three parts: First, we will explore ways to present technical topics to various audiences and some general public speaking skills for giving talks, presenting a poster, or even just giving research updates to your advisor. Second, we will find ways to answer the question "So what do you study?" that many of us are asked when meeting new people. Third, we will conclude with a brief technical talk on modeling astrochemical networks in Julia.
Nina is a Jewish Hispanic woman who grew up loving mathematics in San Antonio, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for her undergraduate degree in Math where she worked with Dr. Alperen Ergür studying applications of Algebraic Geometry. Her research interests are Computer Aided Geometric Design and modeling fluid mechanics. You might often see Nina dancewalking on the UT campus. Why? Because attending the CSEM Ph.D. program in the Oden institute is a dream come true for Nina, and she lives every day thoroughly wonderstruck.
